Suburban Legends @ The Parish

Ska returns to Huddersfield as +Suburban Legends rock The Parish.

Support - Wobbly Bob + Eat Defeat

Ska-rockers from southern California, Suburban Legends have returned to the UK to play a set of venues before departing.

The band who have been recently touring with Reel Big Fish played at The Parish last Thursday night in what can be described as a fun and engaging atmosphere. I fully enjoyed my 2nd Suburban Legends experience and at £7 for a ticket I got great value for money, though I did fill up on "pirates booty" (merch).

Suburban Legends sometimes play at Disneyland, and this becomes evident with tracks 'Just Can't Wait to be King' from The Lion King and 'Under the Sea' from The Little Mermaid popping up on their latest album. These songs were performed on the night and it proved that any crowd can get dancing to kid's music.

Even the support was brilliant; local band Eat Defeat and fellow skankers Wobbly Bob put on an excellent show. Wobbly Bob even played 'Under the Sea' giving SL a hard act to follow, as they would later play the same song.

One of the top ska bands around, Suburban Legends bring their own style to the genre offering plenty of guitar shredding, strong horn sections and choreographed dance routines- they are truly unique.

The Parish is also easily one of the coolest venues I have been to. It has a warm feeling right from when you step in, friendly staff and from what I've heard nice food, which I need to try. It combines its pub with its music area, and being within touching distance of the bands on stage makes live music extra special.

The Legends' set list included: 'Open up your eyes', 'High Fives' and a rendition of 'Sweet Caroline' by guitarist Brian Klemm. This was after the show had temporally paused for a birthday song/snack break and a dance off competition which lead to a milk drinking contest.

The band said they were excited to play in England though their tour has finished now, concluding in Brighton. They will be announcing upcoming shows soon.

Pick up a copy of Suburban Legends' latest record Day Job to hear how great they sound, and why you should see them live at least once.
